In the world, there are 415 blocks with active status and 63 blocks under construction.
In the world, 415 reactors have operational status, while 63 reactors have construction status. These data are provided by the PRIS database, maintained by the IAEA.
In the latest update of the database, the start of construction for reactor unit No. 1 at the Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant in China has been recorded. The date of the first concrete pouring is August 10, 2025.
The reactor HPR-1000 ("Chinese Dragon") will be installed at this unit. The owner and operating organization is indicated as CNNC Corporation.
The electrical capacity of the unit is 1233 MW(e). It should be noted that the same figure is given for both net and gross capacities in the database, which is obviously an error.
Thus, there are now 29 units under construction in China, according to PRIS. It should be noted that data regarding the Chinese nuclear industry is entered into the database with delays.
According to PRIS, in 2025, there were two nuclear unit start-ups (in India and China), construction of three units began (two in China and one in Russia), and four nuclear units were definitively shut down (three in Belgium and one in Taiwan).
The total number of reactor-years of operation for nuclear power units in the world is 20541.
