Peter Madyar: Hungary will terminate part of the contracts for the "Paks-2" nuclear power plant if necessary.
The winner of the elections in Hungary, Peter Madyar, expressed his desire to discuss with the President of the Russian Federation the agreements between the two countries in the energy sector. Hungary is vulnerable due to its dependence on energy supplies.

The head of the winning party "Tisa" in Hungary, Peter Madyar, stated that he wants to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the improvement of the conditions of agreements in the energy sector. According to him, the cost of constructing new units of the "Paks-2" nuclear power plant under Rosatom's project is significantly inflated.

"I can tell you that we will review every contract, and if necessary, we will revise it, and if necessary, we will terminate it," said Peter Madyar at a press conference following the elections (quote from TASS).

He also added that Hungary is in a vulnerable position due to its dependence on energy supplies from the Russian Federation. He mentioned that he could ask Vladimir Putin to improve the financial terms of the existing contracts.

In turn, the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, noted that "Rosatom", considering the prospects of construction in Hungary of the "Paks-2" nuclear power plant with the participation of Russia, assumes that the new Hungarian authorities will act in the interests of their people.

"Of course, we assume that the new government of Peter Madyar will primarily be pro-Hungarian and will act in the interests of the Hungarian people, including in terms of projects being implemented. The "Paks" project is the subject of decades-long cooperation between our country and Hungary," he stated in a comment to journalist Pavel Zarubin.

The parliamentary elections in Hungary took place on April 12. The turnout was 79.5%. According to the National Election Office of Hungary, with 98.9% of ballots processed, the "Tisa" party received 53.07% of the votes and 138 out of 199 mandates, while the "Fidesz" coalition received 38.43% and 55 seats. Viktor Orban acknowledged defeat in the parliamentary elections and congratulated Peter Madyar on his victory.

Russia will not congratulate Peter Madyar on his victory in the parliamentary elections in Hungary, declared Dmitry Peskov. He reminded that Budapest supports sanctions against Moscow and therefore is considered an unfriendly country.
