Rosatom completes preparations for the cold-hot commissioning of the first VVER-1200 reactor unit at the Akkuyu NPP.

The General Director of the state corporation Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, conducted a working trip to the Akkuyu NPP construction region in Turkey. During the visit to the NPP site he inspected the progress of work on the first power unit of the nuclear power plant. The Rosatom management delegation at the NPP site was accompanied by the chairman of the board of JSC Akkuyu Nuclear Anton Dedusenko, the CEO Sergey Buttskikh and the First Deputy General Director – Technical Director Andrey Zhukov.

«We are moving toward the main task of this year — ensuring the transition to commissioning, and then to operating procedures on the first power unit of the four-loop Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Preparations for the key event — cold-hot commissioning with loaded fuel-assembly simulators — are nearing completion. There is currently a strong interest from Turkish companies in joining the project. This is connected with the possibility of participating in electricity generation and earning profits. Together with a number of Turkish companies, we have begun substantive discussions on the parameters of their participation in the charter capital — this is a serious, substantial piece of work. It is extremely important for us to have partners in Turkey not only at the construction and commissioning stage but throughout the entire life cycle of operation of the power units, which can reach 100 years,» noted Alexey Likhachev.

The head of Rosatom also visited the residential town being built 50 km from the Akkuyu NPP construction site for the plant's employees and their families. He carefully familiarized himself with the progress of works in the modern residential area, where in the first phase 48 residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten, all necessary social infrastructure facilities and autonomous utility systems are being prepared for commissioning.

Construction of the residential town for the operating personnel of the Akkuyu NPP began in February 2023. It is designed to accommodate more than 8,000 residents and covers an area of about 80 hectares. The project is being implemented in three stages. In the first phase, 816 apartments are planned to be handed over, a 1,000-seat school with a sports center and an indoor pool, and a kindergarten for 450 places. In the second phase, 732 apartments are being built, and for the third phase (1,100 apartments) a land-use permit has been obtained. The territory will host a medical point, a pharmacy, commercial premises, public and recreational spaces, including a park area. The town is equipped with autonomous engineering infrastructure: power supply with full reserve capacity, its own water supply sources and treatment facilities, boiler rooms in each residential building. The construction and engineering solutions used are aimed at increasing seismic resistance and energy efficiency of the buildings.
