Rosatom and Egypt have detailed the plans for the implementation of the El-Dabaa NPP project, said the general director of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, at a briefing in Cairo.
"Today is a very important day. We not only conducted negotiations with the Egyptian delegation headed by the Minister of Energy of Egypt, but also thoroughly examined both today’s agenda and the plans for the implementation of the 'El-Dabaa' project. We also reported our thoughts to the head of the Egyptian government and received approval for our approaches," he said.

The head of Rosatom noted that "the construction is currently in a very uplifting state."

"More than 25,000 people are working on the construction site. The number of workers will continue to increase. Our task, starting next year, is to transform the first unit into a facility for the use of nuclear energy," he explained.

"El-Dabaa" is the first nuclear power plant in Egypt. It is being constructed by the Russian state corporation Rosatom in the city of El-Dabaa (Matrouh Province) on the Mediterranean coast. The power plant consists of 4 power units, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW, equipped with water-water reactors of the Russian VVER-1200 class of Generation III+, which are the latest technologies and already have successfully operating reference stations. The El-Dabaa NPP is being built under a set of contracts that came into force on December 11, 2017.
