Russia and Kazakhstan have completed an agreement to build the first large nuclear power plant in Central Asia
On Thursday, Russia and Kazakhstan signed an agreement to build the first large commercial nuclear power plant in Central Asia.
The deal was finalized during talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the second day of the Russian leader's state visit to Astana.
Tokayev thanked Putin for approving the plans to construct a nuclear power plant in his country. Kazakhstan stated that it expects Russia to finance 85% of the construction of the plant, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2035-2036.
Kazakhstan announced that it is counting on Russia to finance 85% of the plant's cost, with commissioning expected around 2035-2036.
It is expected that this facility will be equipped with two Russian VVER-1200 generation III+ pressurized water reactors.
