The first reactor unit of the VVER-1200 at the Belarusian NPP has marked 5 years of reliable operation.
Energy Unit No. 1 of the Belarusian NPP (the general designer and general contractor is the Engineering Division of the state corporation "Rosatom") has marked 5 years since it was put into commercial operation. For the Russian atomic industry, it has become the first operational block of the latest generation of safety III+, built using Russian technologies abroad. Currently, the two operational units of the Belarusian NPP have generated about 63 billion kWh of electricity and meet around 40% of Belarus's internal electricity needs.
“The stable operation of the units at the Belarusian NPP eloquently confirms the reliability and efficiency of Russian atomic technologies, – noted Andrey Petrov, the first deputy general director for nuclear energy of the state corporation “Rosatom” and president of JSC "ASE". – This success was made possible thanks to the long and productive work of a large team of Belarusian and Russian specialists.”
“The project for the construction of the Belarusian NPP, implemented together with our strategic partner – the state corporation "Rosatom" – has become key to the sustainable development of the energy sector and strengthening the energy security of Belarus. A serious step has been taken in the technological development of the country. The electricity produced by the nuclear power plant is in demand from the real sector of the economy and the population,” – said the Minister of Energy of Belarus, Denis Moroz.
