Comparison of European and Asian competencies in the supply chains for Gen III+ reactors.
This analysis focuses on four leading large-block (GW-scale) light-water reactors (PWR) of Generation III+, which currently dominate the global export market and have undergone European regulatory review: APR-1400 (developed by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, KHNP), AP1000 (Westinghouse), HPR1000 (China National Nuclear Corporation, CNNC) and EPR (Framatome/Électricité de France, EDF). All of these designs are characterized by enhanced safety standards, including improved protection systems against severe accidents and the use of passive systems, are designed for a long service life of 60 years, and boast high electrical power in the range of 1100 to 1750 MW.1
