A specially designed portable battery with IP55 protection, high capacity, and the ability to operate at extremely low temperatures was handed over during a working visit to the construction site of Russia's first plant for the production of lithium-ion systems in the Russian city of Neman.

The chairwoman of Rosatom's fuel company TVEL, Natalija Nikipelova, stressed that this testing represents part of the company's strategic approach to first test its products in the most demanding conditions before offering them to the market.

Fjodor Konjuhov emphasized that reliable equipment is a key factor in the success of all polar expeditions.

This Antarctic test is part of Rosatom's broader Energy Storage business segment. Namely, this Russian company is investing in the construction of two large factories in the Kaliningrad Oblast and in New Moscow, whose total production capacity will amount to 8 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity, which could annually supply batteries for up to 100,000 electric vehicles. Rosatom, a global leader in the nuclear industry, is also directing its capacities toward the renewable energy and electrochemical storage markets, using existing research infrastructure and technological resources to develop competitive energy solutions.
