Report on the Relevance of Design Phasing in Construction: A Comparative Analysis of International and National Standards (2024–2025)
Standardization of design stages is one of the fundamental conditions for the successful implementation of cross-border construction projects. The analysis of the terminology of European and international standards conducted in 2014 confirmed the importance of having common "coordinate systems" for effective interaction among professionals from different jurisdictions.1 Insufficient understanding of how design stages are defined in foreign regulations inevitably leads to errors in contracting and management of project documentation.1
During the period from 2014 to 2024, global and regional regulatory bases have undergone substantial changes. The aim of this study is the critical verification of the status and actions of key European, international, and national (CIS) documents to which the original work referred. This is necessary to update the comparative matrix of design staging and to confirm or adjust the previously proposed six-stage model as a reliable communication tool for managers of engineering firms and international consultants.
The methodology of the study includes a comprehensive analysis of the legal force of normative documents to date (2024–2025), a comparison of their stage structures with the six-stage-six-stage model, and the identification of terminological discrepancies arising in the implementation of cross-border projects.
